BOSU® + BOSU® Pods: Double the Balance, Double the Fun!

A Taylor’d Pilates Story
It all started when a friend dropped by with a mischievous grin and a pair of BOSU® Pods in her bag.
“Trust me,” she said, handing them over. “You’re going to love these.”
I wasn’t convinced at first — they looked small, almost too simple. But a few days later, during my morning BOSU® flow, curiosity got the better of me. Coffee still warm on the table, I decided to give them a try.
I set the BOSU® Balance Trainer in its usual spot, placed the Pods under my hands, and began to move. Within seconds, I knew my friend was onto something. My shoulders stabilized, my core fired, and suddenly, every tiny muscle that had been quietly coasting decided to show up for work.
What surprised me most wasn’t how hard it was — it was how alive it felt. The BOSU® gave me that familiar challenge of balance and control, but the Pods added this new layer of precision and awareness. Together, they turned a simple Pilates flow into something deeply connected and completely engaging.
That day changed how I use both tools. Sometimes the best discoveries don’t come from planning — they come from playing.
Meet the Dynamic Duo
If you’re new to this combo, here’s the cast of characters:
The BOSU® Balance Trainer — that iconic half-dome powerhouse that builds core strength, posture, and coordination.
The BOSU® Pods — the small but mighty domes that wake up stabilizers in your hands, feet, and even your brain.
Together, they turn every move into a game of balance, awareness, and control — a true Pilates playground.
From my book Pilates on the BOSU®: FUNDAMENTALS
You’ll find plenty of beginner-friendly BOSU® sequences to help you start safely and build confidence one wobble at a time.

Why Combine BOSU® and BOSU® Pods?
Because your body loves variety — and your brain does too!
When you pair the BOSU® and BOSU® Pods, you create what I call “micro-instability magic.” It’s that subtle shake that forces your core, hips, and shoulders to engage in beautiful harmony.
Over the years, I’ve seen this combo help clients:
Rebuild strength from the ground up
Improve balance and posture
Enhance proprioception (that’s your inner GPS for movement!)
Discover muscles they never even knew existed
And the best part? It’s fun. You’ll laugh, wobble, maybe even fall a little — but every single time, you’ll get back up stronger.
A Few of My Favorite BOSU® + Pod Exercise Moments
Let me paint a few scenes from my studio…
The “Pod Plank”
One morning, I challenged my client Sara to hold a plank with her hands on the BOSU® Pods and her feet on the BOSU®. She gave me the classic “are you serious?” look — and then burst out laughing halfway through as her shoulders started to tremble.“This isn’t Pilates,” she said. “It’s a full-body wake-up call!”Pro Tip: Drop to your knees if you need to. Strength builds through practice, not perfection.
“Abdominal Crunches”
My client John always loved a challenge. Sitting proudly on the BOSU®, with his heels pressing into the BOSU® Pods, (round side up) he leaned back, reached his arms forward, and lifted one knee toward his chest. Within seconds, his core lit up like a Christmas tree.“I feel muscles in my eyebrows!” he laughed. That’s the magic of this move — balance, coordination, and serious ab control all rolled into one playful crunch!
“Squat – Pod and BOSU® Press”
This one’s my personal go-to on days when I need a boost. Standing with one foot on the BOSU® (round side up) and the other on a Pod (round side up), I bend both knees, then straighten again — one breath, one movement. It feels powerful, connected, and deeply grounding — like your whole body is working together in perfect harmony.
“BOSU® + BOSU® Pods Tap”
Now for the fun one! I set two BOSU® Pods (round side up) just in front of the BOSU®, stood tall on the Pods, and began tapping the BOSU® with one foot while balancing on the other. Arms lifted high, legs fired up, and my core? Working overtime! There was laughter, plenty of wobbles, and a little bit of “good” suffering — all in the name of strong legs and better balance. A perfect blend of coordination, control, and pure joy.
Taylor’d Pro Tips
Start slow, especially if you’re new to the BOSU® world.
Train barefoot — it strengthens your feet and deepens your connection to the floor (and the wobble).
Ready for a challenge? Flip the BOSU® Pods flat side up — but only if you’re feeling brave!
