How It All Started
My journey with Pilates started while I was dancing with The Toronto Dance Theatre.
At the time, I was struggling with persistent aches and pains—sciatica being the worst of them. As a dancer, I understood the importance of proper placement, but what I didn’t fully grasp was how to engage the right muscles for that alignment. I found myself visiting the chiropractor almost daily, searching for relief. I’d often ask, “What can I do to help my body so I don’t need to see you every morning?” His response? “You’re already doing it.” But it didn’t feel like I was. I knew I was missing something.

Then one day, someone introduced me to Pilates—and that session changed everything.
For the first time, movement made complete sense. With regular practice, my body began to respond in ways I hadn’t imagined. What initially seemed like simple exercises were, in fact, deeply challenging and incredibly effective. I started to feel stronger, more aligned, more elongated. My posture noticeably improved—yes, even as a dancer! Most incredibly, my sciatica improved dramatically, and I stopped needing those constant chiropractor visits.
I felt lighter, freer, and happier than I had in years. It was as if I’d been handed a gift—an extra decade to keep dancing professionally. Pilates didn’t just give me back my body; it gave me back possibility. I began to understand how to control my flexibility from the inside out, how to move efficiently without strain or injury, and how to support my body with intention rather than force.
That was the moment I knew I had to dive deeper. I immersed myself in the Pilates Method and eventually became a fully certified Instructor Trainer—and then a Teacher Trainer. I wanted to share this life-changing knowledge with others.
But life had more lessons in store. While still performing, I suffered a serious back injury during rehearsal. I fell from a lift and landed on a straight leg—my knee didn’t bend to absorb the impact, and the full force traveled straight to my spine. I ruptured one disc and herniated another. I was devastated. Just like that, my dancing career came to a halt.
After a year of rehab with little improvement, I felt lost. My surgeon told me there was nothing they could do. But something in me refused to accept that as the end. I started to study back injuries myself. I wanted to understand how our bodies heal, how we recover from something as small as a sprained ankle or as serious as spinal trauma. I spoke with other dancers who had been through similar experiences—those who had undergone spinal fusions, those still finding their way back.
Through this exploration, and with the support of my dear friend Frank Bach, I began to see the magic of Pilates all over again—but this time from a different perspective. I relearned how to walk properly, how to stand, how to be in my body again. Slowly, my strength returned. Within six months of working with the refined micro-movements of Pilates, I was back on stage—jumping, dancing, moving with more control than ever before.
That’s when I knew: my purpose was not just to dance, but to teach. To help others discover what I had found. Pilates had not only healed me—it had empowered me.
To this day, I believe Pilates is a miracle. It’s the “best-kept secret,” and I feel incredibly privileged to share it. There is no greater joy than seeing someone experience transformation—whether it’s freedom from pain, greater strength, improved mobility, or simply the confidence that comes from reconnecting with their body.
And now, my world has expanded again with the revolutionary movement system known as Garuda—a beautiful hybrid of Pilates, yoga, dance, and more. As James D’Silva says, “Where Pilates ends, Garuda begins.” It continues to inspire me, just as Pilates did all those years ago.
This journey has taught me that healing is not only possible—it can be powerful, transformative, and even joyful. And I’m honored every day to help others find their own path to wholeness.
